Maidenhead Choral Society started as the Christian Council Choir run by Len Piercey who was the organist and choirmaster at St Mary's Church, Maidenhead. In 1963, the choir was reformed from all the church choirs in Maidenhead to sing in a concert celebrating the opening of the town hall. Since then, our concert programmes have been varied and ambitious; from Handel's Messiah, Dvorak and Haydn, to Tippett and Vaughan Williams, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
Our Musical Diretor George Badacsonyi was born in Budapest, and studied at the acadamy of music there and later Vienna. He has worked regularly with the BBC singers and orchestra, the Philharmonic orchestra and his concert engagements take him world wide.
We are looking for new members to swell our ranks
All voices needed, there is no audition, and if you are a little rusty (musically speaking) do not worry.
We meet every Monday at the Methodist Church in the High Street from 8pm-10pm. All voices very welcome, especially basses and tenors. We hold concerts in the Spring and Autumn, as well as a carol concert every December when we usually join with other local choirs. The location for many of these Christmas concerts is the Eton School Hall which is a great place to sing, and we always have fun, dressed in our festive finery. We are sometimes even let out to perform a few carols in the centre of Maidenhead at this time - perhaps you've seen us and wished you could join in.
A good time to join us is after the New Year at which time we start rehearsing for our Spring concert, but don't worry; you can join us at any time during the year and you will be made welcome.
