Title

The name of the Society shall be 'Maidenhead Choral Society'. Back to Top

Equal Opportunities Statement

The Society shall provide equal opportunities for all, regardless of race, religion, gender, age, socio-economic background or disability. Back to Top

Objectives

The objectives of the Society shall be to promote,improve, develop and maintain public education in an appreciation of the art and science of music, by the presentation of concerts and other activities. Back to Top

Membership

The members of the Society shall be those persons who are in agreement with the objectives of the Society and who pay the annual subscription at the appropriate rates, or rates as shall be determined by the Commitee, the subscription being payable in advance, and (in the case of performing members) who shall provide such evidence of musical ability as the Committee may require. Finance

  1. The financial year shall end on the 30th June.
  2. A banking account shall be opened in the name of the Society and cheques shall be signed by any two officers of the Society.
  3. The Society may recieve donations, grants in aid and financial guarantees. Tickets for any or all of its concerts and other events may be offered for sale to the public. Remunerations/fees for performance at functions can be accepted.

  4. All the income and property of the Society shall be applied solely towards promoting the objects of the Society as set forth above and no portions shall be paid or transferred either directly or indirectly to any member or members of the Society except in payment of legitimate expenses incurred on behalf of the Society.
  5. In the event of the winding-up or dissolution of the Society any remaining assets after all liabilities have been discharged shall not be paid or transferred to any member or members of the Society, but shall be transferred to a charitable organisation whose objects are similar to those of the Society and whose rules preclude the distribution of income and assets among its members.

Amendment of the Constitution

The constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority of the members present at Annual or Special General Meeting provided that fourteen days notice of the General Meeting has been given to all members and provided also that nothing contained in this document shall authorise any amendment which shall have the effect of the Society ceasing to be a charity. Powers of the Committee

The Committee shall appoint such conductors as they require who may attend Committee meetings in a non-voting advisory capacity. The Committee shall select the works to be performed in consultation with the conductor and shall have powers to co-opt members for special duties or for advisory purposes. All arrangements for the concerts and other events and the control of finance shall be in the hands of the Committee. Four members of the Committee shall form a quorum. Back to Top

Audited Accounts

The financial accounts shall be agreed as being correct by an independent examiner and submitted to members at the Annual General Meeting. Back to Top

General Meeting

Within three months of the end of each financial year the members shall be summoned to an Annual General Meeting of which at least fourteen days notice in writing shall have been given. Back to Top

Officers and Committees

The Society shall be managed by a Committee consisting of an Honorary Chairman, an Honorary Secretary, an Honorary Treasurer and four or more ordinary members. Nominations for any of the above offices shall be requested with the notification of the Annual General Meeting which goes to all members fourteen days before the Annual General meeting. Nominations shall be given in writing to the Honorary Secretary at least seven days before the Annual General Meeting. Back to Top
